Look for the Arnold-isms, have fun with the plot, don't think about it too hard. My only issue with thinking of it that way is a large number of people die or nearly die with some pretty gruesome deaths. That's not quite fun in my book, no matter how comical the death is.

Plus, I expected more from Verhoeven coming right after RoboCop and before Basic Instinct. Both those moves were subversive in their own ways with a critique of the society. There's not a lot of that going on here.

I do like the breakdown, though. Very different way to do a review.Jasonhttp://www.themovierambler.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3205309413661318407.post-52262331743109887542007-09-14T13:46:00.000-03:002007-09-14T13:46:00.000-03:00That's certainly a valid point, Andrew. But couldn't they also then implant a third-person memory as part of his adventure?

I just keep going back to the fact that before they start the implantation process, they show a picture of Rachel Ticotin on the monitor with all the choices. Now, we could believe that this is just the way a sedated Quaid views the monitor and interprets the potentially faceless option as his dreamgirl Melina. But if everything IS from his perspective, then, as you said, the scenes with Richter and Cohaagen could not be shown.Reedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14989379631083901130noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3205309413661318407.post-63190261538292508742007-09-14T05:56:00.000-03:002007-09-14T05:56:00.000-03:00On the topic of whether it's real or not, a persua...On the topic of whether it's real or not, a persuasive argument in favour of it being reality is that we are not only exposed to situations that Arnold himself participates in. For instance, we are privy to meetings that take place solely between Cohaagen and Richter. If it was a paranoid delusion one might legitimately expect it to be a first person paranoid delusion.Andrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13614100046353059595noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3205309413661318407.post-3556914561014071002007-07-12T13:16:00.000-03:002007-07-12T13:16:00.000-03:00Never fully understood what made this movie so gre...Never fully understood what made this movie so great. Like you, I had seen it when I was younger. But looking at a review of it, it was definitely the villains that made it work. Cox and Ironside were awesome. But Stone and "Benny" deserve small credit, too.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13883575246725202484noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3205309413661318407.post-14980136416318554782007-06-11T14:57:00.000-03:002007-06-11T14:57:00.000-03:00If I am Arnold, i will never ever kill Lori.If I am Arnold, i will never ever kill Lori.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3205309413661318407.post-29797564374431322892007-05-31T20:38:00.000-03:002007-05-31T20:38:00.000-03:00Whatever happened to Michael Ironside?Whatever happened to Michael Ironside?PMazhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05356913770362084156noreply@blogger.com
